Matching conductor material and insulator
Whether it’s stranded wire, rope or wide-band cable: the insulator must be compatible with the conductor material used and guide it securely, without allowing current to be diverted via the fence post. Fritz Göbel offers, amongst other things, ring and slot insulators for strands and narrow strips, rope insulators, and wide-strip insulators for various strip widths. For wide strips, for example, versions are available for strips up to 20 or 40 mm.
Suitable fixings for different types of posts
The type of post also determines the choice of insulator. For existing wooden posts, Fritz Göbel offers a wide range of insulators with milled wooden threads, which make them easier to screw in. Other designs feature metric threads, clamps or split pins and are designed for use with corresponding metal, fibreglass and other post systems.
Fritz Göbel offers a range of mounting solutions for metal poles. These include, for example, insulators with metric threads and split-pin insulators for angle-iron poles. The appropriate design depends on the type of pole and the conductor material used.
For threaded insulators, the type of thread is important. Many Göbel ring, slotted and wide-band insulators have a milled wooden thread and can be screwed directly into wooden posts. There are also insulators with metric threads, such as M6, for fitting to other post systems.
There are special wide-band insulators available for pasture fence tapes. Fritz Göbel offers a range of designs, including fixed fence insulators for tapes up to 20 or 40 mm wide, as well as multi-insulators for tapes up to 40 mm wide. The choice should be based on the width of the pasture fence tape used and the specific fence configuration.
Ring insulators completely enclose strands or ropes and provide a particularly secure hold. Slotted insulators, on the other hand, allow for quick installation and are also suitable for strands and ropes.
Damaged or brittle insulators should be replaced, as they can lead to voltage losses. Regular checks help to ensure that the electric fence remains in good working order in the long term.
The optimum height of a pasture fence depends on the species of animal, the animals’ behaviour and the specific application. Whilst taller and clearly visible fencing systems are generally recommended for horses, different fence heights and systems may be more suitable for cattle, sheep, goats or poultry. Factors such as the terrain, the size of the pasture and the type of fencing also play an important role. It is crucial that the fence height, fence material and power supply are optimally coordinated. We would be happy to help you find the right fencing solution for your requirements.
A pasture fence refers to the entire fencing system designed to securely enclose animals. An electric fence is an electrically powered pasture fence in which a fence energiser transmits electrical pulses through the conductor material. This teaches animals to respect the fence without causing them permanent injury. Different components and power supplies are used depending on the type of animal, the terrain and the intended application.
